Fire – Fergus Street

Kingston Fire and Rescue says smoke and fire damage is estimated at $100,000 after a kitchen fire on Fergus Street.
The fire was report at about 6:20 p.m. on Wednesday at 80 Fergus Street.
The fire started with oil being used for cooking.
Nobody was injured.

Fatal Fire

The fire Tuesday night in an apartment at 107 Compton Street claimed the life of an 87 year old man.  A 55 year old man is still in hospital recovering from severe smoke inhalation.
The cause of the fire is still being investigated.

Jamaica – Holy Cross

A group of students and four staff from Holy Cross Secondary School will be travelling to Jamaica to work with children and seniors.
The students and staff will take a load of school and medical supplies with them when they leave on March 11.
They’ll spend eight days working in some of the country’s poorest areas.


Napanee School

A teacher and her class at Southview Public School in Napanee have won a national award.
Mistene Clapp’s grade seven class is one of three national winners in MindShare Learning’s Digital Learning Video Challenge.
Students produced a video using iMovie to explain how Clapp uses technology for learning and it is pretty amazing stuff.
The students bring their own electronic devices to class…use Twitter, a green screen, Skype…and even use the video game Minecraft to look at structures in the real world.
They’ve won a technology prize package valued at over $50,000 for their school.
